After eight years of leading Schuylerville’s
football team, Greg O’Connor is stepping down as coach.
“Coach O’Connor has been a dedicated influential role model for our
football players and program,” said Athletic Director Heath Morris.
High School Principal Matthew Sickles agreed, adding, “We appreciate the
positive influence Greg has had on our student athletes. He’ll continue
this tradition in the classroom as he moves through his 12th year of
teaching mathematics.”
O’Connor has led the Black Horses squad since 2004. Before that, he was
assistant coach from 2000 to 2003. O’Connor leaves behind a winning
record of 60-28 overall, including a 21-3 record during his first two
seasons. Coach O’Connor also led Schuylerville to two Class C sectional
championships, as well as successfully shepherding the team as it moved
from Class C to higher level Class B competition.
“I’ve had the opportunity to coach not only good football players, but
also outstanding young men,” O’Connor said. “I’ve enjoyed the hard work
and will miss the competition and camaraderie.”
The district is in the process of the advertising the head coach
position and expect to have it filled by mid-February. Morris and
Sickles will conduct the search process and interview candidates.
