High School students attending leadership conference
January 16, 2013
Ten Schuylerville students have been invited to
attend a student leadership conference at Siena College entitled
Students Together Opposing Prejudice (STOP). The event is designed to
empower students “to lead the fight against bigotry, intolerance and all
forms of hatred in their communities.”
The students attending are: Corwin Ackerman, William Austin, Kayla
Brenz, Ashley Edgar, Alexas Leach, Griffin McPherson, Tyler McMahon,
Anna Moss, Kiabet Quiroz and Rachel Rodriguez. They were chosen based on
their demonstrated leadership abilities. Teacher Laura Lewis is
encouraged by the students’ enthusiasm for the conference. “I’m sure
they will benefit in many ways, including interacting and working with
peers from area schools in positive and pro-active ways, learning about
the concerns and issues facing other students, and continuing to
cultivate their leadership skills to address the concerns of all
students,” she said.
The conference is sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta
Scott King Lecture Series at Siena College in partnership with the
Anti-Defamation League.
