Superintendent Ryan Sherman encouraged Schuylerville
staff members to honor the past, look to the future and let a creative
spirit guide them as they work together to build on the foundations of
excellence. The message came as part of the opening day activities on
Tuesday, September 8, 2009.
"Schuylerville is an incredible school district," Sherman said. "Each
day that I’m here, I encounter another source of pride, another
accomplishment that sets this district apart. You should be very proud.
I’m hoping to become an integral part of that culture and team up with
you to make the district even better."
In addition to acknowledging district successes, Sherman also took an
opportunity to touch on his basic philosophies, as well as five district
goals.
The core philosophies include maintaining the values and traditions of
the district and creating a K-12 culture. Again, Sherman stressed the
idea of "going from great to even greater."
The
five district goals Sherman outlined were developed over the summer
months; they are:
Maximize
student achievement.
Increase
communication with all school stakeholders.
Enhance
technology across the district.
Maintain
cohesive operations, procedures and finances.
Increase
professional development opportunities for all employees.
Sherman took time during the opening day speech to acknowledge staff
members who were instrumental in ensuring school opened on time in the
midst of a large construction project. In addition, he detailed some of
the steps the district is taking in preparation for a potentially
difficult flu season. Sherman's talk was followed by a detailed update
on the construction project presented by Business Manager Wendy Morris
and Superintendent for Buildings and Grounds Peter Riggi.
