On Wednesday, February 10, 2010, Schuylerville Central District will host a parent night on the topic of "cyberbullying." This event will be held at 7 p.m. in the Elementary School Cafeteria. The speaker will be David R. Ashdown.
The parent night is a follow-up to last year's presentation by John Halligan, the father of a young boy who took his own life after being “cyberbullied.”
The February 10 presentation will cover the
following topic areas, plus much more:
What is Cyberbullying? Using
real-life examples from local and national news and a series of video
clips, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the many ways
that students can be harassed and bullied using technology.
What Causes Cyberbullying?
Though bullying is nothing new, what is it about technology that makes
it easier for teenagers to bully their peers? In addition, what are some
of the root causes for bullying behaviors?
Strategies for Stamping out
Cyberbullying. Participants will gain practical insight and
strategies for discouraging cyberbullying behaviors, as well as steps to
take if they are aware of a current bullying situation.
