The Saratoga County Public Health Nursing Services is collaborating with Schuylerville Central School District to host an H1N1 vaccine clinic for students in grades K-12. The H1N1 vaccine will also be available for school staff members, parents, siblings and all residents of Saratoga County.
The H1N1 Clinic will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School Cafeteria. There is no cost for this vaccine.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that children and young adults aged 6 months through 24 years be vaccinated against the 2009 H1N1 flu. The H1N1 flu season is far from over. Typically, the most flu activity occurs from January through March, and the flu season runs through May. Getting vaccinated now will help provide protection for you against H1N1 flu for the rest of the season this winter and spring. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your children from getting this disease.
Please read the accompanying vaccine information sheet [PDF file]. It contains vaccine information on the "flu shot" that will be available at the school clinic. Please note that the "nasal mist" will not be given at the school clinic. When you arrive at the school clinic, you will be given a patient consent form, which needs to be completed for each person receiving the vaccine.
A second dose of the H1N1 vaccine is recommended for children 9 years old and under. The second dose should be given after 28 days. You may take your "Patient Copy Form" that you are given at the school clinic to your health care provider or call Saratoga County Public Health Nursing Services at (518) 584-7460 to schedule an appointment. Please keep the "Patient Copy Form" to bring with you to the second dose clinic.
If your child has already received the first H1N1 vaccine and is due for the second (booster) dose, he/she may obtain this vaccine at the school clinic on February 4. However, parents must bring a copy of the child's "Patient Copy Form" to the school clinic as proof of the date of the initial H1N1 vaccination. No booster vaccines can be given without this form.
