Step-by-Step Formatting Directions
Before you write your
research paper, follow these format directions!
First Page
A research paper does not need a title
page. Instead, beginning one inch from the top of the
first page and flush with the left margin, type your
name, your instructor’s name, the course, and the date
on separate lines, double spacing between the lines. Double space again and center the title. Double space
again and begin your paper.
Headers
Each page should contain a header with
your last name and page number one-half inch from the
top and flush with the right margin.
Format Directions:
1. Go
to View and select
Headers and Footers.
2. Choose
the Align Right Icon from the Word Toolbar and
type in your last name.
3. Hit
the space bar once. From the Header and Footer box
choose the first icon (# insert page number).
4. Select
close.
5.
Go to Format and select
Paragraph.
6. Under
line spacing, select double.
7. Type
your first and last name. Hit enter.
8. Type
the name of your teacher. Hit enter.
9. Type
the name of your course. Hit enter.
10.
Type the date. Hit enter.
11.
Go to Align Center from the Word
Toolbar and type the title of your paper. Hit
enter.
12.
Go to Align Left from the Word
Toolbar, indent five spaces and begin typing your paper.
13.
If you would like to create your Works
Cited page before your paper is typed, go to
Insert and select break. Select page
break and hit OK.
14.
Go to Format, choose Paragraph.
In Special, choose Hanging (this will
automatically indent the second line of your entries). Hit OK.
15.
Choose
Align
Center
from
the Word Toolbar and type Works Cited. Hit
enter. Choose the Align Left, and begin typing
your first entry.
